How do you choose a product that will make you money?

You'll see that there are a huge number of affiliate programs on the net that you could take advantage of. So how do you choose a product that will make you money? That you'll be able to sell? And will pay a good commission?

There are two ways to choose a product or other affiliate opportunity to represent

• Choose a product or group of products that are closely related to your website – which is great if you have a website or if you have a clear idea of the concept on which you want to base your site
• Choose a niche that has demonstrated that it has a lot of traffic. Here’s a list derived from my wordtracker searches and internet research
• money-making and internet marketing
• health – e.g. weight loss, acne removal, natural cures for gout
• beauty
• art
• cell phone
• ringtones
• dish network
• insurance
• credit card
• travel

If you want to make the most from your website…

If you choose a niche related to your existing website, use an internet tool to gauge the demand for products. Wordtracker is good for this; and SBI integrates it and gives you a good number of searches for free. Your research may show you that your niche is too small to support your target income. At this point, you have to take a step back and really brainstorm your options. You could choose to move on to a new niche. You could expand your niche. You could look really closely at other ways you could monetize your website e.g. Adsense.

If you want to position yourself where the traffic is…

The best way of finding the niches with plenty of traffic is to look at statistics in the internet marketing sites and find which products are selling. Clickbank gives each product a gravity rating which measures exactly that. Other sites do the same.

You could also try searching the internet for program reviews using keywords like “top affiliate list”….
But I haven’t had much luck with this. The review sites either look to have little traffic or promote their own programs.

If you choose the high traffic option be sure to choose a niche that you can generate some personal enthusiasm and motivation. You’re going to have to create a website that will support this product set so make sure it’s going to keep you interested enough to finish the job
